   CANCER OF VOICEBOX (LARYNX CARCINOMA)

CANCER OF VOICEBOX (LARYNX CARCINOMA)

It is mainly seen in smoking male patients. The risk increases in elderly and alcholics.

Early diagnosis and management of larynx carcinoma is important. Symptoms are horseness, difficulty in swallowing, weight loss, mouth bleeding and neck mass.

You should see an ENT doctor if you have horseness more than 2 weeks. Your doctor will examine your voicebox with an endoscope and take biopsy from your vocal cords or voicebox. Imaging techniques will be obtained to see extension of the tumour and other systems.

Early diagnosed cancer responds to radiation therapy or surgery equally well. Surgery is used as main treatment option in many cases. Sometimes radiation and chemotherapy (medical therapy) may be added as an adjunctive therapy.
