Unilateral nasal drainage is one of the important issues in otolaryngology. Bilateral drainage is common in infections. If drainage is unilateral the causes are different according to the age of the patient. Foreign body is the most common cause in children and debilitated patients while tumours are the most common causes in adults.

In trauma cases, unilateral watery discharge may come from one nostril. This finding may be important for serebrospinal leakage.
Treatment depends on the cause.
